We are excited to announce that Portworx is collaborating with IBM in an effort to build a vibrant edge computing ecosystem for the 5G era.  Portworx has joined IBM and twenty other market-leading companies in an effort to provide a flexible and open platform that enterprises can use to run real enterprise applications at the edge.  In addition to Portworx and IBM, participants include Cisco, Intel, Sysdig and more.

IBM announced the ecosystem as part of its broader news on edge computing.

Portworx has worked closely with IBM over the last year to help IBM Cloud Pak customers to run innovative AI platforms like Watson Studio and Cognos in any Red Hat OpenShift environment, whether it is on-prem or in the cloud.  We are excited to extend those environments to include the edge, where we are seeing an increasing number of Kubernetes-powered workloads, including autonomous vehicles, real-time geospatial analytics, and industrial IoT.

For those unfamiliar with Portworx, we are key success factor for our Global 2000 customers bringing Kubernetes to production. The Portworx Storage Platform is the software-defined container storage platform built from the ground up for Kubernetes.  By providing scale-out software defined container storage, data availability, data security, backup and disaster recovery for Kubernetes-based applications running at the edge, on-prem and across clouds, Portworx has helped dozens of Global 2000 companies such as Carrefour, Comcast, GE Digital, Lufthansa, T-Mobile, and SAIC run containerized data services in production.

Portworx is especially valuable at the edge because this is where data is increasingly collected via IoT devices, initially analyzed, and subsequently sent to the core data center for additional processing.  At its heart, these edge-driven processes require storage performance, data protection, capacity management and data security, without an extensive resource footprint, the core value proposition of Portworx’s lightweight yet robust software-defined platform.  Portworx also accelerates edge-to-edge and edge-to-core data access delivering high performance data portability with minimal infrastructure.

We are excited to be a part of IBM’s bold initiative to make it easier for enterprises to build and run applications on the edge.  If you are interested to know how Portworx can help, contact us today.
