ROSEN Group Accelerates Delivery of AI Insights with the Pure Storage Platform

ROSEN Group, the leader in inspection equipment for the oil and gas industry, innovates pipeline inspections with AI. Hear why ROSEN selected the Pure Storage Platform and Portworx as the foundation for a high-performance, highly available, and scalable infrastructure tailored for AI, containerization, and data management.

Helping Customers Make Better Decisions through Data

The ROSEN Group empowers customers across the global energy industry by providing cutting-edge technologies to inspect and manage industrial assets. Over its 40 years of operation, ROSEN Group has inspected and mapped a vast majority of the world’s pipelines, amassing around 20 petabytes of data.

At the core of ROSEN Groups’s value proposition is its ability to transform this data into actionable insights, enabling customers to optimize their industrial assets while meeting increasingly stringent pipeline maintenance regulations. With a forward-looking approach, ROSEN Group decided to harness its extensive data resources to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) platform. This platform is designed to help customers enhance asset protection and ensure a sustainable energy supply for years to come.

AI initiatives, however, demand fast and reliable data storage to streamline data pipelines, train machine-learning models, and accelerate insights through AI-powered analytics. In addition, ROSEN Group needed a solution to efficiently deliver these insights to customers in the form of detailed, timely reports. To meet these requirements, the company took a closer look at its storage infrastructure.

Accelerating AI with Containerization and Portworx

To accelerate the development of its AI platform, ROSEN Group adopted a containerized approach. This strategy allowed for greater scalability, automation, and agility in the management of its environment. To support this initiative, ROSEN Group selected Pure Storage and Portworx as the foundation for a high-performance, highly available, and scalable infrastructure tailored for AI and data management.

Portworx, a Kubernetes-native data management solution from Pure Storage, plays a pivotal role in ROSEN Group’s container platform by delivering seamless storage provisioning. This enables ROSEN Groups’s teams to request and deploy storage as needed for their AI and machine learning (ML) projects. Additionally, Portworx’s multi-cloud capabilities empower ROSEN Group to provision clusters across various regional cloud environments, ensuring flexibility and scalability.

The combination of Pure Storage FlashArray and FlashBlade further supports ROSEN Group’s AI initiatives by providing unified and reliable, high-performance all-flash storage. These solutions not only meet the demands of the AI platform but also handle ROSEN’s everyday storage requirements with ease.

“Portworx has enabled us to automate around 99% of our platform, managing it as code,” says Thorsten de Vos, IT Service Architect at ROSEN Group. “This frees up our IT teams to focus on bringing more innovations to the environment, while the enterprise support from Pure Storage ensures our success every step of the way.”

Delivering Insights to Customers Faster

ROSEN Group´s AI platform has already achieved impressive results during its pilot phase, generating 150 terabytes of data that can be evaluated simultaneously by multiple specialists. This rapid analysis enables ROSEN Group to deliver insights to customers significantly faster.e

“With our AI platform, powered by Pure Storage, we’ve achieved a 70% reduction in the time it takes to deliver analyses to customers,” says de Vos. “This helps our customers make quicker data-driven decisions, while allowing us to complete more pipeline inspections each year.”

Using Kubeflow alongside Portworx, ROSEN Group has built a seamless ecosystem to support AI projects throughout their lifecycle—from training and fine-tuning models to deploying them in production. Kubeflow’s automation ensures the platform can handle thousands of jobs, creating Persistent Volume Claims (PVCs) for them efficiently. This setup enables ROSEN Group to maintain the high throughput required to meet customer demands.

“Our largest AI model processes data from approximately 1,000 ports, each requesting 50 PVCs every five minutes,” says de Vos. ”Thanks to Kubeflow and Portworx, these requests are automatically deployed on our Pure Storage FlashBlade in under a second.”

Looking ahead, ROSEN Group is exploring additional advancements, such as process orchestration and event streaming for its Kubeflow systems. These enhancements will allow the company to extend the value of the data generated by its AI platform to support other critical services, further strengthening its position as a leader in the energy industry.

“With our AI platform, powered by Pure Storage, we’ve achieved a 70% reduction in the time it takes to deliver analyses to customers. This helps our customers make quicker data-driven decisions, while allowing us to complete more pipeline inspections each year.”
