Fiserv embraced containerization using Portworx and OpenShift to streamline application delivery, reduce data center footprint, and improve agility in the financial services sector.

The Challenge

Fiserv faced inconsistent software delivery timelines across environments and slow development cycles tied to monolithic applications. They also needed to manage a complex and hybrid infrastructure landscape following a major merger.

The Solution

Fiserv has implemented OpenShift across public cloud and on-prem, while continuing to support additional Kubernetes distributions across the enterprise. Using Portworx as the storage and data management layer has enabled Fiserv to standardize their storage management approach across a heterogeneous environment, leading to reduced complexity and improved scalability.

Moving to Portworx and OpenShift has enabled Fiserv to drive efficiency and sustainability across the modernization efforts. With Portworx and Pure Storage, Fiserv is now able to quickly and efficiently process 25k+ transactions per second with a significantly lower infrastructure footprint.

The Results

With their new architecture in place, Fiserv has seen tangible improvements across software deployment and delivery. Developers are now able to deploy more features faster—sometimes multiple times per month or even per week—boosting both agility and innovation. In the fast-paced fintech industry, where customer demand for new products is constant and urgent, containerized application delivery has become a critical enabler.

This modern approach not only accelerates time to market but also ensures reliability. The flexible infrastructure allows Fiserv to scale resources up or down as needed, which in turn builds confidence among business users who rely on consistent performance and responsiveness.

“The impacts of the business are clearly reliable software deployments, where we're deploying more features…this allows developers to get towards multiple deployments perhaps per month, per week.”
