Why open source matters
Contributing to open-source has been part of our DNA since the early days of Kubernetes. We are members of the Linux Foundation and the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), and our participation is meant to enhance the capabilities of Kubernetes storage and contribute useful functionality to other related projects.
We originate open source projects ourselves and contribute to others which add value to the Kubernetes ecosystem and bring important new functionality to our customers. In this way, we help our customers realize the workload portability and independence that Kubernetes promises. Our work in open source demonstrates our commitment to Kubernetes interoperability that customers can rely on. Portworx was a founding member of the Open Container Initiative (OCI). Additionally, since July 2014, our parent company Everpure has supported the OpenStack project and contributed over 50,000 lines of code. Portworx have contributed leadership and technical direction as past members of:
CNCF Storage Working Group
The CNCF Storage Working Group aims to enable widespread and successful storage of persistent state in cloud native environments.
CNCF Technical Oversight Committee
The CNCF Technical Oversight Committee (TOC) provides technical leadership to the cloud native community and oversees the approval, alignment, and archiving of all CNCF projects.
Kubernetes SIG-Storage
Kubernetes SIG-Storage is responsible for creating enhancements ensuring that different types of file and block storage are available wherever containers are scheduled.
Kubernetes-CSI Contributors
Kubernetes-CSI is a community repository containing projects to enable CSI support in Kubernetes.
Spotlight on virtbench
As more companies deploy production workloads as VMs on Kubernetes, virtbench provides an open-source framework they can use for testing production readiness of KubeVirt virtual machines across provisioning, boot storms, live migration, and recovery with the metrics that matter to VMWare vSphere admins. Other pod-level Kubernetes metrics tools miss VM-specific measures, such as guest readiness, storage performance, network access, and migration disruption, needed to establish baselines and catch regressions before production.

Key Projects
Our libopenstorage and Portworx repositories include over 140 projects that extend the capabilities of our solutions for customers wanting a container-native approach to storage. Key projects include
OpenStorage: Distributed storage control plane supporting CSI, Docker, and Kubernetes
Stork: Extends Kubernetes’ native scheduler with topology awareness
virtbench: testing readiness of Kubernetes virtual machines
Pure Storage Open Connect: GitHub contributions from Everpure Customers, Architects, System Engineers, and Developers. -
Event sponsorships
You can find us at open-source community events and user groups globally, including recurring KubeCon + CloudNativeCon conferences across North America, Europe, and Asia. We are also pleased to contribute to the Data on Kubernetes Ambassadors program.
